CINEMA5DI started a massive D800 test. Today I made some first shots and tests. I will use this topic to show the results. First test is just a simple test: Audio/Sync delay.
There is usually a lull in excitement between the initial announcement of new cameras and the time that real-world reviews start hitting the internet. However the Canon 5D mk3 and the Nikon D800 didn’t allow for much of a lull this time; their specs were so off-the-chart impressive that people have been discussing and debating them non-stop. Yet somehow, the excitement still managed to bump itself up a notch with the recently published “official reviews” on the web. …Links to be discussed:

CINEMA5DLumoLabs: Nikon D800 video function demystified
CINEMA5DTo use the D800 "clean HDMI" live video mode, you need to remove all memory cards.
CINEMA5DObviously, is is expensive to buy one of each to make an extensive comparision, but have any of our 5DM2 owning members also been using the D800 on any kind of an "ongoing basis"...If so, any further, findings or comments? Large Sensor DSLRs | Has anyone been shooting tests on the 5DM3 & the Nikon D800?
CINEMA5DWell, my initial tests indicate that the D800 is no better than the 5D2 at anything video related, other than it has a headphone socket and can display the audio volume while recording.
CINEMA5Dhello anybody tried combination of this products? it does not work in easy way for me (switches to 720p/50p when recording on D800 & NINJA, when not recording on D800 hdmi is not clean), anybody sucessfull to share knowledge? Large Sensor DSLRs | D800 + Atomos ninja?
I’ve been fortunate enough to get to spend some time with a production model this week (thanks !) and put it through its paces – shooting sports, scenics, and EDLs. The first thing I noticed about the D800 is that it is one solid camera, almost exactly the same size and weight as the , at 2.2 lbs. Many of the control updates from the D7000 and the D4 have been included, giving the camera a more contemporary design than the D700 which was Nikon’s previous high-end “small-bodied” DSLR...Nikon D800 Field Test: Super results from a super sensor
SONY ALPH RUMORS

As I told you Sony is working on two new FF models, one with 24 and one with 36 Megapixel sensor. With the recent release Canon opted for a “low” resolution 22 Megapixel sensor while Nikon opted for the Sony 36 Megapixel sensor. Question is, how much difference will it make in the real world? Roger from Lensrentals (Click here) made a comparison by testing the same Zeiss 25mm f/2.0 and 100mm f/2.0 lenses on both cameras. There are some interesting findings: ...Is more Megapixel better? The Nikon D800 set the all time record score of 95 on its DxOMark tests, eclipsing the previous "king for 3 days," the Nikon D4. In short, purchasers of either camera are likely to be delighted with the images they get. Of course there is more to a camera than just the image quality, but if you'd like to read up on all the scores of the D800 and the D4 you can head over to the DxOMark feature story. You can back-order the Nikon D800 for $2999 from B&H, or the Nikon D4 for $5999.

CINEMA5DOn a number of levels- wow...
Wow. That is one amazing camera sensor, Nikon. Way to go!
The results are in from DXO Mark’s sensor benchmark tests for both the Nikon D4, and the Nikon D800. Guess who won?
The D4, of course, takes the top spot for low-light performance, beating out the Nikon D3s by just a hair, and ALL other cameras by an incredible margin. The D800, surprisingly, comes CLOSE enough in low-light performance that the rest of the specs push it past ANY other camera EVER tested, into the #1 spot.

If you have pre-ordered the Nikon D800, you will have a smile on your face after you read this. Remember my first post on the Nikon D800, where I said that it will take the #1 spot at DXOMark? Well, guess what – I was right on that one. DXOMark has just released their latest data for the Nikon D800 and it took the #1 spot away from the expensive Phase One IQ180 medium format camera. With an overall score of 95, nothing comes even remotely close to its sensor performance:

PETAPIXELTurns out the 36.3 megapixel sensor inside the new isn’t just a megapixel war marketing tactic: the sensor has been given the highest score ever awarded by camera equipment rating service . Calling it a “complete success in every sensor-related respect”, the lab states that the D800′s sensor has become the new sensor of reference by which all other camera sensors will be measured. Furthermore, it boasts an “unmatched quality-to-price ratio” by being the cheapest (by far) among the 8 top cameras. ... Nikon D800 Receives the Highest Sensor Score Ever Given by DxOMark
SONY ALPH RUMORS
As you know it is the Sony 36 Megapixel Full Frame sensor that powers the current Nikon D800 topseller camera (Click here to see the ranking). And as far as I know Nikon has a (one year?) exclusivity on that sensor. DxOmark just tested the sensor quality (Click here). It beats all current FF sensors and “is comparable to the best medium-format sensor, and in fact does even better — much better — as ISO increases.” It shows that Sony sensor technology greatly improved during the last couple of years. ...The Sony sensor inside the Nikon D800 is the best of it’s class (says DxOmark)
