After crawling out of the cave I’d apparently been living in and downloading Mac OS 10.6 to replace the not-retro-enough-to-be-cool OS 10.5 I was running on my iMac, I was able to download Nik Software’s latest high dynamic range imaging software, HDR Efex Pro 2. Lately I’ve been expanding the dynamic range of my images by hand blending multiple exposures in Photoshop using techniques I learned in Sean Bagshaw’s fantastic video tutorial, “Processing for Extended Dynamic Range“. Off topic, but if ...

I’ve use many of Nik Software’s products over the years. Lately, I’ve been experimenting with some of their competitor’s less expensive, but equally useful plug-ins. But HDR EFEX PRO 2 has brought me back to Nik. When HDR Efex Pro 1 came out I was impressed, but not enough to use it as my only HDR processor. I used to use a combination of Photomatix Pro and HDR EFEX PRO 1. Now I no longer need Photomatix. HDR EFEX PRO 2 is ...

The most recent release of the Pro version of the software, version 4.2, is a major step up and ensures that Photomatix will stay among the HDR leaders in software for some time to come.
While the software is very easy to use, and pretty self-explanatory, there are some helpful tips for the beginner ...

Nik has released finally (it was killing me not being able to talk about it) HDR Efex Pro 2 and it’s freakin great! It’s sweeter, it’s faster, it’s better and it’s my preferred HDR program now! The very same tools that are used to compensate for HDR side effects can be used to sharpen any image.
When multiple bracketed exposures are merged into a single processed file, shadows and highlights that exceed the dynamic range of a camera’s sensor are compressed into the dynamic range of a digital ...

Light…it’s what makes photography go round. I have found the D4 sees and records light differently then anyother camera before it. While at first it threw me, now I really like it. It has changed the way I expose for HDR a tad and expanded what I can do which I like. What you see here is a 5 image HDR. With the D3 I would have had an initial exp comp of -1 but in this case, it was 0. The additional information the D4 provides makes a subtle difference in the final image, but I like it. That little ...
