Now that Nikon has shipped the D800 and the D800E, that's when the rubber meets the road. I mentioned in many of my “rants” like D800: Thanks but No Thanks that the problem is going to be the lenses and their capacity or lack of capacity to resolve the 30+ megapixels.
Lens Rentals of http://www.lensrentals.com tried the D800 on their lenses. Not only they have “everything”, they have more than everything! They tested the D800 with their Nikon mount lenses. The sensor may be fantastic but most Nikon ...D800: Where Are the Lenses?
I’ve had a number of folks email and ask if I’ve found a remote method for starting video capture with the D4 / D800. What I do is use the Pocket Wizard III and it works great! Is there something special you have to do to make this work? The only trick is on the D4 / D800, set Custom Setting g4 to Record movies. When you do that, when the D4/D800 is in Movie Mode (lever on the back of the camera) the shutter release starts and stop the video recording. With this, you partially depress the Test Button ...Remote Video Start for D4 / D800
A German magazine called “fotomagazin” has released an article regarding the rumored D600. The article is in German, so not everyone within the SLR Lounge community will be able to read it.

However from what I gathered, the sentiments of this article is what has already been previously discussed in various other articles on the net, and one SLR Lounge.
However, with this article being released at this time, and with the recent leaked images of the D600, this camera is looking ...Gear! Nikon D600 to be a cross between D7000 and D800
NIKON RUMORSThe German magazine Fotomagazin has a special Photokina report that includes also a new front view image of the Nikon D600. The picture is probably photoshopped, but it's a very close representation of how the real D600 will look. You may remember earlier in the year, we had an article where a Nikon D800 was retrofitted with medium format lenses by Laurent Thion. Now, in his guest blog post on Nikonrumors.com, photographer Jan Håkan Dahlström is taking it one step more by taking his D800 and mounted it to an Arca Swiss 4×5/9×12 rail camera, a Nikon-mount extension tube, and an Yamasaki Congo 180 mm/4.5 large format lens. The benefit with using a large format lens is that it has a large sensor coverage, providing a greater ...Large Format Photography with Nikon D800
NIKON RUMORSThis guest post on using the Nikon D800 as a negative holder for a large format camera + lens setup is by Jan Håkan Dahlström: It’s really quite simple. What you need is a large format camera, a suitable lens and a digital camera body instead of a film holder. In this case it’s an [...] Related posts: Guest post: Aerial drone photography – when your camera flies without you Guest post: Nikon D800 criticisms refuted Guest post: Using the Nikon P7000/P7100 for underwater photography Guest post: Large format photography with Nikon D800 as a negative holder

A number of our readers have been anxious to hear the results of my and others’ D800 repair experiences, particularly since they have sent their D800s in for repair but haven’t had them returned. Others are considering whether they should send their cameras to Nikon or return them to the retailer (if within the 30 day return window). What are the chances are of a successful repair? camera labsWith 36 Megapixels, the Nikon D800 comes closer to medium format territory than any DSLR before it, and at a much more affordable price too. Which of course begs the question how the D800 actually compares to a medium format camera in practice. I borrowed a 60 Megapixel Phase One IQ160 system to find out, pitching it side-by-side against the D800. And if that sounds unfair, I did it one more time with two D800 images stitched into a 72 Megapixel monster! Who'll win Gold in the Megapixel Olympics?...
