Hi All.
I thought I'd share my little DIY project for this weekend. Making the Silver Olympus OVF a matte black to match the GF1. I'm pleased with the result, it doesn't stick out as much now and goes nicely with the body. Some masking tape & Matte black spray paint. Total time = 4 minutes.....That's my kind of DIY project. :)

Just picked up an EPL1 for an upcoming trip so my wife and I can share the mFT lenses. I have the EVF for both and although you hear about the dramatic difference between the two EVFs, it is not till you look through them that it becomes clear. The Oly EVF is so much better the Pany version. After looking through the Oly EVF, the Pany looks like a slightly out of focus smudged lens. This was the good side of the EPL1 purchase.
I also tried my 12-60 in it and was a bit bummed. I don't... EPL1 EVF VS GF1 plus HG glass useage...

Will the GX1 have or nor a built-in viewfinder like the one described in the Panasonic United States Patent Application 20100060771?

Important update: Two sources quickly answered me that the rumor from Digicam-info about the GX1 coming next week is NOT correct. I ask these anonymous sources if they can also tell me if the rest from the rumor is correct or wrong (GF1 design and no built-in viewfinder info).

Does anybody know what kind of connector Panasonic use for the electronic viewfinder on the GF1. I think it would be great for street photography to have the viewfinder off board and connected to the camera by means of a cable. Combined with a remote shutter release, this could be a very powerful tool for candid street photography. I hope it could be a matter of a simple cable purchase, but I wonder if Panasonic were sneaky and used a custom connector. Can anyone with a greater knowledge of standard ... GF1 EVF connector type?

I wouldn't mind mirrorless in a Pro body where I can use my current lenses.
No clickclack sound :-) this could also mean a faster framerate because there are no mechanical things flipping around.
but as the header states, Do I have to look at a 3" screen? I am not sure a (good) viewfinder is possible without a mirror? Does mirrorless mean NO viewfinder?

I am looking for a EVF solution...are there any available apart from panasonic's.
And how's panasonic's evf?
I don't have high expectations, if it gets the job done and i can focus with its help, i will be more than happy.

Hi all
Would like to ask your opinion regarding what sort of viewfinder I should get to compliment the Nokton 25/0.95.
I haven't go the Nokton yet but would anticipate that the LCD would not be adequate to do manual focusing quickly.

RANGEFINDER FORUM

I'm looking to get a used GF1 soon. I have never used one, but I've used an Olympus E-pl1. The manual focus I found was very difficult. I don't know if it's better on the GF1, but my question is: does the evf make manual focus easier? Is the evf worth the money?
I just don't really like looking at the lcd, but it seems expensive if it's just to add a crappy viewfinder that isn't going to help me much.
Also, does the lcd turn off when using the evf? EVF on Panasonic GF1

My LX5's memory card lock broke and it's at Panasonic's repair facility. My LX3 is likely dying a slow death from salt water "intrusion" - still kicking, though.
I'm going on vacation and don't want to tote the D700 and lenses (sometimes I take the D700, sometimes I go lighter.) So I picked up the 14-45 to complement my 20mm pancake and 7-14. Needed something in the middle to "tell a story" (like my 24-70 on D700).
I bought the 14-45 before and returned it, unused; I felt the GF-1 and 20mm pancake ... GF-1 w/ Lumix 14-45 and EVF... well it's still smaller than a D700

I have completed my tests on the distance shots for the GF1 + EVF + Lumix 100-300mm OIS Lens.
These images were all shot 'HAND HELD' on a very heavy cloudy, misty and rainy day...........all within a few seconds of each other. The GF1 was set to centre (spot) focus (normal size). Shot through the back window of the car, right arm propped against the back seat to steady the aim.
I could have lifted the contrast much higher but that would have removed the mist at the bridge and also the brown coloured ... GF1+EVF+100-300mm - Extreme Distance (ISO:100+3200)

Today I received an Electronic View Finder for my GF1. I was wondering if any of you has an experience with it regarding battery power:
Using an EVF saves power or consumes more battery power than using the display at the cameras back?

Unfortunately, sometimes, instead of changing cameras to get good pictures, you have to change the photographer.

NikonWatch is reporting that when the Nikon D4 arrives, it will have a "mirrorless viewfinder", but with no further description. A pellicle mirror perhaps?
