Some days ago I saw the HDR tonemapped footage of Stephen Lee Carr (http://bit.ly/hfbfJU). I was very fascinated by the look and wanted to do this by myself. So...I did. I know it's not the best tonemapping but it's a test to work out a good workflow and stuff. Let me know your opinion on this!

To be quite honest, I've always pretty much hated HDR images. In my off time at work I have been reading two books on HDR photography. So, I guess my opinion has started to shift on the matter. I still don't like over the top HDR stuff but I can now see a place for it amongst my shooting habits. It's just very hard to get some of the software out there to produce a more naturalistic looking image.
Here are 6 of my attempts to try to get to what I want with HDR photography.

Would appreciate any feedback, this is my first attempt at HDR.
Is it overdone, perhaps a bit too saturated? There are so many good HDR images but I think it's very difficult to get the balance right and very easy to make it look overdone.

This is a 5 shot composition of the house we stayed in while in Acapulco earlier this year. The base image is a 3 shot HDR with a fair amount of PP to clean up the sky and bring out more features in the house. The upper bedroom lights were out and couldn't be turned on so I had to overlay the bedroom from another image. The front doors just wouldn't come out decently at night so I overlayed them from a day time image.

Hey there! Thanks for the comment!I will shoot more footage in the upcoming weeks. Urban footage, landscapes and such. Mare Island, in Alameda, California, is an closed Naval Yard that once employed 40,000 workers during World War II. It's a perfect location for HDR and Exposure Fusion techniques.
All images created with Canon 7D and Canon 17-55 F2.8 Lens. Processed in Photomatix and NIK software.

This is my first try at HDR with my new 7D. I would be interested to get any feedback from more experienced members of the forum! It was done with Photomatix Pro 4.0.2 and the TIFF was converted to JPEG with Capture One 6.0.1. The JPEGs here are not the original full size ones (they are 8M each).
There is no essential difference in the three uploads, they just turned out slightly differently - maybe the light changed a bit from one to the other.
The camera settings were:

On a recent vacation to Argentina, I attempted to capture some night shots to create my first HDR image. This is a bridge in Buenos Aires in Port Madero called Puente:"De La Mujer" The HDR was created with 3 pictures. Since I did not have a tripod, I placed my camera on my bag and with a cable remote I took each picture. I think I need more practice with HDR.

Driving home from a shoot, was on the causeway of the Dam in Barkhamsted, CT. The water was like glass across the reservoir and spillway and the sunset was just the right time. 7D with Canon 17-85 lens.. C&C welcome, but mostly just to share.

Today, Canon released a major firmware update for their 7D DSLR. Firmware 2.0, that they announced in June.
There are improvements in burst shooting: now up to 25 frames per second in RAW and 17 in RAW + JPEG. Significant upgrades in terms of underwater shooting include the ability to manually set the ISO up to 6400, in-camera RAW processing, JPEG image resizing, setting image ratings in-camera and customizable file names.

By now, everybody knows that Canon has released the new firmware v2 for the Canon 7D. It's available on the US website and on the Canadian website where I downloaded it from. It should be available from the other Canon websites too.
