Nikon has released a new firmware
update for the Nikon 1 J1 and Nikon 1 V1 that will certainly be a
welcomed addition for fans of the new mirrorless system.Version 1.10 of the firmware for the J1 and V1 makes the cameras compatible with F-mount lenses. You'll still need the adapter to make the lenses connect on the mechanical side, and we're looking at an early 2012 release for that, but updating your camera now means that you'll be ready once the adapter gets released.

I wonder how small and how light a DX camera without a mirror could be. The D3100 weighs 18 oz and the Nikkor 18-105mm weighs 15 oz. The 35mm DX weighs just 7 oz. (Of greatest interest to me, the Nikkor 16-85mm weighs 17 oz.) Taking, say, 6 oz. off the D3100 would bring an EVIL DX camera very close to the weight of the Nikon 1 V1, if I'm doing my math right.
The major market for such a camera would eventually be as an alternative to the Nikon 1 or something past it. It would give me something ... What would an upscaled Nikon 1 V that takes F-mount lenses look like?

Hi there,I'm thinking about selling my Leica gear and go back to a Nikon FM3a. For 28 and 90-100mm I already have good lenses, close to the performance of my current 28 Elmarit Asph and 90 Cron Apo-Asph. The problem is the 50mm range, where the 50 Lux Asph is my all-time favorite. Apparently, no 50mm lens by Nikon comes close to the Lux, especially due to a super-busy OOF rendering. Looking at the Zeiss line-up, the 50/1.4 seems to be equally bad, whereas the 50/2 looks like a great performer. But ... Which (manual) F-mount lens is closest to Leica's 50 Lux Asph

UPDATE:Ok so I bought both this 20mm 3.5 and a Nikkor-H 85mm 1.8 this weekend
After a lot more digging and rephrasing of google searches I came across this at another forum about the 20mm UD and other Nikons with extended rears.

I am debating trimming it down and putting it back in, but for now I'm very happy.

It's coming, sooner or later, and the new PD/CD AF in the new small system is looking like close to present PD AF in dslrs, at least at the present basic APS-C level.
So, Nikon could reduce flange to make cameras and lenses smaller or they could just keep as it is and go from there. This image shows that the present flange distance actually make bodies thikher but that, other than that, if you remove the mirrorbox hood, APS-C is already very close to the V1 in size:
My guess: they'll stick to the F, ... So, when Nikon go ML in APS-C or FF, will F-mount stay?

I think I found a Nikon 20mm 3.5 UD for a great price around me, and I was wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with this lens?It's pre AI, and has a little fin that pokes out of the rear of the lens.
I've been researching it for a couple days now, and I think it will fit fine and clear everything on cropped sensors

Hello, I have one of the Sonnar Opton 50mm f/1.5 lenses that fits on a contax IIIa body. I am wondering if there are any recommended adapters that would allow me to mount this lens onto a Nikon D7000. I know its going to be tricky because this particular lens lacks an internal focus mechanism. Follow on question would be, what get's "lost in translation"?
